BENEATH the HARVEST MOON

Autumn Night

This artwork was created as a seasonal Halloween piece, guided by atmosphere and imagery rather than narrative. A large harvest moon hangs low in the sky, casting warm light over pumpkins, shadows, and small nocturnal presences. The scene feels still and watchful, caught in the pause between daylight and night.

Pumpkins sit quietly in the foreground, their carved faces glowing softly. Bats trace gentle arcs through the sky, and small details emerge gradually — a small resting fairy cat, candlelight, fallen leaves. Nothing dominates the scene; instead, the image unfolds through layers, inviting the eye to wander and linger.

Watercolor and colored pencils were used to build warmth and texture, balancing soft washes with finer lines. The focus remained on mood and seasonal presence — the familiar quiet of autumn evenings, when the air cools, shadows lengthen, and the moon seems closer than usual.
