STAR COLLECTOR

Beneath a Twilight Sky

This painting began with the words Star Collector.
I didn’t start with a story, only with the phrase itself and a winter atmosphere.

As the image formed, a white moose appeared at the edge of the water.
Stars had fallen into the lake — falling stars — and the moose was quietly collecting them, scooping them back up from the surface.

The scene sits between earth and sky, where reflections blur and the night feels close. Blues, silvers, and softer tones merge, holding the moment in balance. The act is unhurried and careful, more about attention than purpose.

Process

I worked intuitively with watercolor and gouache, allowing the image to emerge rather than directing it toward a fixed outcome. The painting developed through observation and small adjustments, letting the action reveal itself layer by layer.

A Note

Star Collector is not about possession, but about care.
It is about noticing what has fallen, what is fragile or easily missed, and taking the time to gather it gently. The painting holds that pause — without asking the viewer to interpret it further.
